Jesus fulfills prophecy of Messiah
The Messiah would be
resurrected.
Psalm 16:8-10
"I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be
moved. For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to
see corruption. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall
rest in hope."
Matthew 28:6
"He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord
lay."
The Messiah would
be killed
before the destruction of the temple.
Daniel 9:26
"And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself:
and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the
sanctuary..."
Matthew 27:50-51
" Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And,
behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth
did quake, and the rocks rent;"
The Messiah would
be a King.
Psalm 2:6
"Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion."
Genesis 49:10
"The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until
Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be."
John 19:19
" And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF
NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS."
The Messiah would
be the "Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 9:6
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be
upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The
everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
John 14:27
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I
unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
The Messiah would
be as a shepherd.
Isaiah 40:11
"He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and
carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young."
John 10:11
"I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep."
The Messiah would
have the appearance
of an ordinary man.
Isaiah 53:2
"For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry
ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that
we should desire him."
Philipians 2:7-8
" But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was
made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and
became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."
The Messiah would
have the
Spirit of Wisdom.
Isaiah 11:2
"And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and
understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of
the Lord;"
Luke 2:40
"And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of
God was upon him."
Matthew 13:54
"And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue,
insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these
mighty works? "
The Messiah would
be a Prophet.
Deuteronomy 18:15-19
"I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will
put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
According to all that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the
assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see
this great fire any more, that I die not. And the Lord said unto me, They have well spoken
that which they have spoken. 18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren,
like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that
I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my
words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him."
Matthew 21:11
"And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee."
John 4:19
"The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet."
The Messiah would
speak in parables.
Psalm 78:2
"I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:"
Isaiah 6:9-10
"And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see
ye indeed, but perceive not. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy,
and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and
understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed."
Matthew 13:34-35
"All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable
spake he not unto them: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet,
saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret
from the foundation of the world."
The Messiah would
preach the good news.
Isaiah 61:1-2
"THE Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach
good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the
brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them
that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of
vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;"
Luke 4:17-21
"And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had
opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon
me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal
the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the
blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes
of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto
them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears."
The Messiah would
be presented to
Jerusalem riding on a donkey.
Zechariah 9:9
"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy
King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass ,
and upon a colt the foal of an ass
."
Matthew 21:6-9
" And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them, And brought the ass
, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon. And a very
great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees,
and strawed them in the way. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed,
cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the
Lord; Hosanna in the highest."
The Messiah would
be angered by
disrespect toward the temple.
Psalm 69:9
"For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that
reproached thee are fallen upon me."
John 2:13-17
" And the Jews passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, And found
in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple,
and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers money, and overthrew the tables;
And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Fathers house an
house of merchandise. And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of
thine house hath eaten me up."
The Messiah would
perform miracles and have a healing ministry
Isaiah 35:5
"Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be
unstopped."
Mark 10:51-52
"And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The
blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. And Jesus said unto
him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight,
and followed Jesus in the way."
Mark 7:32-35
" And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his
speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. And he took him aside from
the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;
And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be
opened. And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was
loosed, and he spake plain."
Isaiah 35:6
"Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the
wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert."
Matthew 12:10-13
" And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. ... Then saith he to the
man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like
as the other."
Isaiah 53:4
"Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him
stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted."
Matthew 8:16-17

and bare our sicknesses."
The Messiah,
anguished,
would pray without ceasing.
Psalm 22:2
"O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and
am not silent."
Matthew 26:38-39
" Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye
here, and watch with me. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and
prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless,
not as I will, but as thou wilt."
The Messiah would
be the new covenant.
Isaiah 42:6
"I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will
keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;"
Jeremiah 31:31
"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the
house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:"
Matthew 26:28
"For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission
of sins."
The Messiah would
proclaim
a period of grace.
Isaiah 61:1-2

The Messiah would
be the sin-bearer
for all mankind.
Isaiah 53:11
"He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge
shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities."
Isaiah 53:12
"Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil
with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with
the transgressors: and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the
transgressors."
Hebrews 9:28
"So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many..."
2 Corinthians 5:21
"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the
righteousness of God in him."
The Messiah would
be as a sacrificial lamb.
Isaiah 53:7
"He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought
as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not
his mouth."
John 1:29
"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God,
which taketh away the sin of the world."
The Messiah would
come for all people.
Isaiah 11:10
"And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of
the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious."
2 Samuel 22:50
"Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and sing praises
unto thy name."
Genesis 28:14
"And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth; and thou shalt spread abroad to the
west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed
shall all the families of the earth be blessed."
Romans 15:8-9
" Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of
God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers: And that the Gentiles might glorify

The Messiah would
be a light to the Gentiles.
Isaiah 49:6
"And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the
tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light
to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth."
Acts 13:47-48
" For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of
the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth. And
when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as
many as were ordained to eternal life believed."
Mockers would say
of the Messiah,
"he trusted God, let him deliver him."
Psalm 22:8
" ...they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver
him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him."
Matthew 27:41-43
" Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,
He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now
come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in God; let him
deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God."
The Messiah would
be foresaken by God.
Psalm 22:1
"MY God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and
from the words of my roaring?"
Mark 15:34
"And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama
sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"
The Messiah would
be killed.
Daniel 9:26

"And they crucified him ..."
The Messiah's body
would not be
subject to decay.

The Messiah would
be highly exalted.
Isaiah 52:13b
"Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be
very high."
Philippians 2:9-11
" Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is
above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in
heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue
should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
The Messiah would
defeat death.
Isaiah 25:8 "He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away
tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the
earth: for the Lord hath spoken it."
1 Corinthians 15:55-57
"O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death
is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us
the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
Revelation 1:18
"I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and
have the keys of hell and of death."
The Messiah would
reject those
who did not believe in him.
Psalm 2:12
"Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is
kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him."
John 3:36
"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the
Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."
A vision of the
Messiah in a glorified state.
Daniel 10:5-6
"Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen,
whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: His body also was like the beryl,
and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms
and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice
of a multitude."
Revelation 1:13-16
"And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed
with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His
head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of
fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as
the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth
went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his
strength."
The Messiah would
be resurrected.
