The Unjust Judge and the Persistent Widow
1 And he told them a parable, to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. 2 He said, "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor regarded man; 3 and there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, `Vindicate me against my adversary.' 4 For a while he refused; but afterward he said to himself, `Though I neither fear God nor regard man, 5 yet because this widow bothers me, I will vindicate her, or she will wear me out by her continual coming.'" 6 And the Lord said, "Hear what the unrighteous judge says. 7 And will not God vindicate his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? 8 I tell you, he will vindicate them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth?" Meditation: "Lord, give me faith to believe your promises
and give me perseverance and hope to withstand trials and adversities. "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you
will find; knock and Jesus saw that they wanted to ask
him about this, so he said to them, "Are you asking one another what I meant
when I said, 'In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a
little while you will see me'? I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn
while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.
A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when
her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is
born into the world. So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see
you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. In that
day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father
will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for
anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be
complete. |
