I am not getting discouraged at sending these pix, but I am a little concerned at the lack of response these days in comparison to a year ago. I was concerned for you, Ruth Ann, and for Mr BULLFROG. Anyway, that's enough of my moaning, lets get Seeing we have been in Wales quite a bit this past couple of days, I thought I would stay in Wales and end the day [at least, my day in the UK] with some pix to amuse you - they may even make you smile! The first picture is of a railway station in North Wales, but to show the significance of this view I must post three more. So here goes! This is the railway station with the longest name in the whole of the United Kingdom; but don't ask me to pronounce it, as you will see when I reveal the name in the next picture.

This is the name sign on the main station building. See what I mean about pronouncing it? Now we see the sign on the station platform - to help us it is not only printed in the Welsh language, but underneath is a phonetic version to aid pronounciation.

But what does the name mean? In this final picture we see the name again displayed on another building in the station complex, this time with an English translation beneath it.

That's it; I've had enough of the PC for today, so I'm closing it down and soon I'll be off to bed. Good night!
God bless Pen

Reference the previous post, I notice the station name is too small to see on the last two pix, so I will try to resend these in a slightly larger format. God bless Pen

These pictures are really wonderful, Pen. We all appreciate your taking the time to put them up for us! This is a holiday weekend, a big one for our summer here. Memorial Day, to remember our troops and our veterans, those still with us and those who have passed. So I think most won't be here at the Pond much til Tuesday. The holiday is Monday. And Kay is without her puter. It quit. Froggy and Kay are working on getting her what she needs so she can be here. And Shon is leaving for Italy next week. So.... It's Olivet and I! Gina too. Phoenix reads here. Sweet dreams!

and I've even ridden the incline that Ruth Ann posted from Pittsburg
so dont always take a lack of response as meaning no one is reading the posts
(nor riding the rides!)

Enjoy your holiday, all of you. Will post another picture [not from Wales] for when you get back. I'll do the same with the sister topic, HC4u's UK Reporter. God bless Pen

Thank you, Ruth Ann, for posting this picture for me. Yes, all the Welsh words do run together like that, which is why it is the longest name! Thank you, Mr BULL FROG, for "sticky-ing" this topic - I hope it will be to mutual advantage. God bless Pen

Now for the promised picture NOT from Wales!
YORK MINSTER York is a walled city, situated at the confluence of the Rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England. The city has a rich heritage and has provided the backdrop to major political events throughout much of its two millennia of existence. I have had several holidays there recently, and many years ago used to live near to this city. It houses the largest Railway Museum in the world. I visited it a few weeks ago. God bless Pen

In America when over 200 years is a lot for a city, 2000 years is amazing in the UK! Must have been some great wars there. A walled city on 2 rivers. Very valuable city.

The Basques have the same custom for names as do the Welsh, and do write in their alphabet too, interesting. A surname might read in English House on the top of the hill
The story of York is very interesting, a walled city too with a 2,000 year history. Who is the Duke of York today

The folk in Wales have way too many consonants in their words for them to be pronounceable!
Really would like to see the York Minster, that is one on my list if I ever make it over. Another place I want to see is the Maritime museum that is there at Greenwich and the Royal observatory where John Harrison's works are still on display. Ever since I read the book "Longitude" I have been so fascinated by the English clockmaker who made the first chronometers. One of the most interesting stories I've ever read.

Hi Gina I have not been to the Royal Observatory at Greenwich, to my shame, so I have no holiday pix I can send you from there. However, I could send you a picture [not mine] of the observatory, if you would like. Let me know. God bless Pen

Oh, yes, I'd like to see that picture of the Royal Observatory. I have never seen one. All I know is the description of it being 'up the hill' from the Maritime Museum.

Oh, yes, I'd like to see that picture of the Royal Observatory. I have never seen one. All I know is the description of it being 'up the hill' from the Maritime Museum. Always happy to oblige, Gina; here are two pictures of the Greenwich Royal Observatory, one a general view and the second showing, as you so rightly say, the Observatory up the hill - I hope you like them. By the way, did you see my invitation in the "UK Reporter" topic for my friends on HC4u to become "Friends of Pen4God Ministries"? If not, do please check it out! God bless Pen

Thanks! What an interesting building. Looks very impressive and I would so much like to walk right in and check it out. Especially to see the Harrison models. Oh my, that would be a treat. Fun to see a picture of it. Definitely is 'up the hill'. I'm sure they meant up the hill from the Maritime Museum and the Thames River. Very nice view.
