Yom Kipur (atonement day)

The 10 days between Rosh Hashana (Jewish new year) and Yom Kippur (Atonement day) are called the "terrible days"
These are the days we are requested to click into our awareness and start confessing all the wrongs we did during the past year.
These are days of forgiveness.
I don't know about you but I have much to forgive and be forgiven
It seems to an outsider, that Rosh Hashana is a lively happy festival of the new year and Yom Kippur is a dark, gloomy sad day of atonement.
This is so far from the true picture!
Rosh Hashana is the beginning of the said "10 terrible days" while Yom Kippur is the end
On Yom Kippur tradition has it that we get signed up in the book of life for another year
God surely wants us to forgive and be forgiven, yet God has His reservations
He does not want us to come to him for forgiveness before we have sorted out anything we might have hanging between us and our neighbor!
This is best expressed in Isaiah:
Isa 1:10 (ESV) Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom! Give ear to the teaching of our God, you people of Gomorrah!
Isa 1:11 (ESV) "What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices? says the LORD; I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of well-fed beasts; I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of goats.
Isa 1:12 (ESV) "When you come to appear before me, who has required of you this trampling of my courts?
Isa 1:13 (ESV) Bring no more vain offerings; incense is an abomination to me. New moon and Sabbath and the calling of convocations-- I cannot endure iniquity and solemn assembly.
Isa 1:14 (ESV) Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates; they have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them.
Isa 1:15 (ESV) When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood.
Isa 1:16 (ESV) Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil,
Isa 1:17 (ESV) learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause.
Friday evening we start the fast till Saturday evening - a tradition I have been following since the age of 13
Wishing all who fast, be well over the fast and all others, may you forgive and be forgiven, and have a good happy new (Jewish) year!
May we all be signed up yet again in God's book of life!

David
The same to you.
It does help to examen our conscience daily and ask God's forgiveness too, those moments and times thru out the day that our conscience seems to prick us or the Holy Spirit convicts us. This helps us from falling into more serious sin and taking the wrong path
