Yes, I read the book last year
It's an amazing story, with lots of hope in it

I have recently done some studying on the word, 'hope'.
David, maybe you could help me with the Hebrew for the word used in the Old Testament.
Sometimes it's the word that means to wait, hope but other times it is another word that means be patient and wait expectantly.
The Greek is ελπιζετε which means to expect. That is a stronger meaning for ' hope' than the English word. To me in the English hope means wishing, hoping, and maybe something will happen.
The Bible word seems to mean it's coming for sure, just wait!
What do you think?
Maybe I should put this in a new thread?

RA, I can't think of another word for Hope right now
There are several words in the bible but they seem to all be from the same root
"tik-VAH" is the one I know and use. That is the title of our anthem too
"...The hope of 2000 years, to be a free people in our land, the land of Zion and Jerusalem"

Hi Olivet,
The steadfast love of the LORD never faileth! He is Beautiful,
3. ...The Holy Great One will come forth from His dwelling,
4. And the eternal God will tread the earth, (even) on Mount Sinai, [And appear from His camp]
And appear in the strength of His might from the heaven of heavens.
[The Book of Enoch, I-XXXVI. Translated by R.H. Charles with intro. by W.O.E. Oesterley. London, SPCK. 1917/77(Impression.). P31.]
Yes folks the steadfast love of the LORD never faileth and He is Beautiful! I Used to imprison my LORD in His Eternal City and could not take hold of the concept of My LORD having a Spiritual Presence free to move at will amongst His Children of Salvation!
But every so often I find The Hope is within me because it is within Him!
The LORD moves in mysterious ways because He is The LORD and is not part of my reason!
Brother Roger knew this and Taize was reborn from the ashes of a Church sometimes operating on Liturgy and Worship with and without the Mystery Presence of The LORD Himself. His very own Presence!
We get a hint of this in the definition of FAITH:
"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
2. For by it the people of old received their commendation.
3. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible."
[The Writer of Hebrews, The LORD, Hebrews.11:1-3 ESV.].
Oesterley reminds us in 1917, ... "... the heroic age of Jewish history, [through Prof. Burkitt] the age when the nation attempted to realise in action the part of the peculiar people of God. It ended in catastrophe, but the nation left two successors, the Christian Church and the Rabbinical Schools, each of which carried on some of the old national aims. ........... !" [Oesterley. Page vii 1917/Intro. 1977, The Book of Enoch!]
In 1947 Israel was born out of the ashes of a Second World War and I would venture to say a New Age has been born out of The Faithful in Israel and The Christian Church closely linked to The British Empire of the time in 1917 and 1947!
Do we indeed study The Apocalypses in The Hope of understanding what they have to tell us as Oesterly goes on to ask and learn, "... We study the Apocalypses to learn how our spiritual ancestors hoped against hope that God would make all right in the end; and here today studying them in an indication that their hope was not wholly unfounded." [Oesterley continuing to quote Prof.Burkitt.].
So we, my friends and believers all Hold the revealed truth of Christian Revelation that hope is the life giving water sprinkled on Faith, our faith from the seed of Jesus' from Jesus perhaps! John.3:16 ESV.
Yours in Jesus' steadfast love that never faileth, and His Everlovingtenderkindness which never ceases,
Colin.

Olivet, Hesed and Emmet are truly the basis for hope Hesed (Grace) is God's part in this hope while Emmet (Truth) is our basis for hope if we but believe in it I think Colin hit the nail on the head (quite a long nail ) which tells us hope does not stand alone by itself, it has to be well based. I must admit there are still too many here in Israel who put their hope in the IDF, not realizing the IDF gets it's strength from our Father in heaven. Having spent many years in the IDF I can say that without the Lord of hosts we could not still be where we are today Thank You Lord Yeshua PS. did you notice that the spell checker here does not recognize Yeshua?
