My calendar says that tomorrow (8th Dec) is "Immaculate Conception - Christian Religious Holidays"
Anyone know what this is about?

This comes from Roman Catholics?!
I was under the understanding that Yeshua was the only perfect human being
Does "Immaculate Conception" say otherwise?

All of us need salvation, but Mary as the mother of our Lord is saved differently. Her conception is pure, lacking the effects of original sin, I take it as a prepared vessel not because of who she is but because of the child of God to be in her womb, that stain of sin would not violate the child of Mary. Mary cannot be separated from Jesus, she is in relationship to her Son, Our Lord

Yeshua was the descendent of a whole line of "rotten apples"
It didn't stop him from being perfect
I find it hard to believe Yeshua's perfection depended on Mary being pure or not

Something in scripture about Mary being unaffected by original sin, Olivet?
I don't think that's true. Jesus was perfect. But he was human.
His human side was from Mary. His flesh was the same. But he, though tempted, sinned not. That's what I think.

He bore her humanity in her womb and she bore His Divinity in her womb. She then raised Him.
Who Mary is is determined by Yeshua, separating Mary from Yeshua yields a heterodox Mary
Where does it say a special vessel I will prepare
and Mary said
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord My spirit rejoices lin God my Savior For He has looked upon His handmaid's lowliness Behold from now on will all ages call me blessed......Luke 1: 46-48
This is how I understand it

RA The reference to her conception refers to free pf the stain of original sin. The Angel Gabriel salutes Mary "Hail full of Grace The Lord is with thee"
the child within her womb is Holy. When she visits Elizabeth, the child within the womb of Elizabeth leaps for joy not because of Mary but because of her Holy Child within her womb. Jesus in the womb is an enfleshed arc of the New Covenant. Elizabeth says "Blessed are you among women" "Who am I that the mother of My Lord should come to visit me".
The dysfuncionality of the family is not seen here. Joseph is guided angels and angelic visitations, who Mary is is revealed to him.
Any speculation of human family dysfunctionality would cast bad light upon the Holy Child and upon Our Lord, Savior and Redeemer.

But Olivet,
The LORD came to Mary in The Presence of The Archangel Gabriel!
If Mary was without Original Sin she could not be human as we mortals?
It follows that if Jesus was barred from Conception in a human being we have added something that is not in the authority of Holy Scripture! Therefore an addition! Suspect!
But you believe what you consider to be the reality of The Conception of Jesus by The Holy Ghost and The Womb of Mary!
We know and accept that Mary was an innocent virgin and not an immoral person yet we have no reason to accept that Mary was in effect a Mother Goddess with the ability to forgive sins!
Added by your theologians in the 1800's was it not!
Words more important than actions I believe anyway!
Not through saints, angels or Mary but by Jesus are we saved!
Yours in Christ and Him alone,
Colin.
PS. This David is where Protestants part company with The Roman Church. But we have stopped throwing things at each other anyway!

You mean, Protestants believe in Mary being holy or some such...? Not Colin, but No, I don't know of any Protestants that believe that Mary is Holy. That is the RCC. I think she was blessed , and God gave her a special task bearing our Lord and Savior, but I don't think she was without the stain of sin and holy. I think Protestants do not give her the honor due to her, but I think the RCC gives her too much.

David
Mary says "all ages will call me Blessed"
The Scriptures are silent about the private life of the Holy Family, but they lived in the presence of the Lord, did they not?
Consider Mary, she stood all the while at the foot of the cross she did not faint, but was not her heart pierced according to the prophecy of Simeon at the presentation in the temple

David Elizabeth, the kinswoman of Mary and mother of John the Baptist gives us an example of how to treat Mary with welcome and respect
