If it's any consolation, it is not just Christianity.
This is something that happens (or can easily happen) in any religion or in fact any group of human beings
It is a human trend...
and to think that God created us in HIS image??!!    Whew, what do I make of that?

Well, we're all human enough to want what we want

and the Monks want each inch of turf it seems   ...they are just as human as the rest of us

and David you're right, it doesn't have to be any type of religion to make a 'battle' it seems

and the part of being made in His image is that at the 'fall' we lost something didn't we?

But Yeshua gave it back to us and we just have to keep plugging away to comform to His image now IMO...hard to do ...unless we rely on Him to lead us each step of the way.

The HolyGhost has a habit of reminding us of Scripture and doctrine when required!  You have to be awake of course, I don't know dreams what's in a dream or two? 

But I find that I only hear Him when I shut up and stop telling Him what I think about it and what He should be doing!

Money is the root of all evil...these turf wars of the battling Monks most assuredly are not caused by money, or greed or avarice,,,,,but battling in the church of the Nativity Is it the human motive of who will be first in the Kingdom of heaven ....I am sure they are familiar with that Scripture....no they are battling over who gets to clean what....no longer young, some look a bit frail for work...could be old age dementia?

I don't believe there are human beings and there are human beings.
We are all in the same boat....Noah's arc maybe?
After all God made us (ALL) in His image and last time I looked there was only ONE God (ie One image 
I find it unreal and somewhat arrogant telling myself I am different than other people.
I could easily do the wrong thing for the wrong reasons..... like punch someone in the face when he curses my mother....
