Hi Ruth,
I sit in the Sunday morning Mass at the side of the High Altar, behind the column to some would be called Jachin, beside the Credence Table and I sit looking at the other column in the Porchway of the Temple called Boaz.
The Sanctuary is extremely high and I would guess that the Church is built on the model of the First Temple in Jerusalem.
I hadn't really thought about it or it's significance until you mentioned it Ruth, one of the retired priests prefers the lower part of the Sanctuary for Mass because his legs are too short he says???....? I prefer it too because I can get vertigo sometimes when I look down and then up at the Sacred Place, reminds me of Romeo and Juliet but it is inspiring to sit at the side of The High Altar anyway. The Sidemen/women need a climbing qualification to light the Six Candles!!!...!
Hope this is not boring if I can find a way to get a photograph on here I will do so.
Yours in His Everlovingtenderkindness,
Colin2000.
